They are not just looking for a dummy to fill in the position. Employers search for job ready qualified applicants to match their needs or what the job description is asking for.

  1. Good attitude – Applicants exposed to part time jobs and undergraduates may lack the knowledge regarding good ethics. Being aware of the basics on how to become a good employee is an advantage. It’s basically about respect and how you treat your boss, co-workers, and clients.
  2. Discipline – Rules in every company vary. Companies who have strict rules may require you to turn off your phones or disconnect from the internet while on duty. HR’s seek for someone who can follow these rules. Admit it or not, it’s not easy to log off from social media especially if you are too attached to it. It consumes too much of your time and makes you less focused. Discipline must come as an initiative and not enforced.
  3. Humility and Patience – It is natural to dream for a higher position, but it doesn’t happen overnight. You have to prove yourself and make yourself worth the position. Be patient and don’t rush climbing the ladder.
  4. Loyalty – Employers appreciate employees who can stick around. Transferring from one company to another without finishing the contract can greatly affect your resume. It becomes a disadvantage to both parties if you cannot stay or finish your contract. Employers value employees who can stay around.
  5. Try Harder – It wouldn’t harm exerting extra effort to learn or develop skills. Work on your weaknesses. Impress your boss.
  6. Courtesy – Being polite, saying thank you, and please are simple acts that you can practice while at work. Having good manners and learning how to respect others will add plus points to your merits.  A praiseworthy characteristic is never taken for granted by employers.
